The Coolest Feature for Chrome 12

by Chris 15. June 2011 01:11

I just stumbled across the coolest feature for Chrome 12, and if the screenshot doesn't explain it all, the JavaScript console now comes with a De-obfuscate code option.  Any JavaScript that was minified can now be turned into the prettiest code west of the Mississippi.  With this great feature, I feel like I can figure out how just about anything works on the web.

That cool Les Paul guitar Google doodle icon can now be picked apart with a simple click of a button.

Of course, something this cool always comes with a few caveats,  first, function names are still shortened, so ALongFunctionName() becomes A().  Since the minifier replaces function names, this can never be brought back.

Secondly, breakpoints can't be set.  This is almost a deal-breaker, since I live and die by breakpoints.  I know a lot of great programmers that can do without them easily, but I use them everyday.

This further cements me in my decision to switch from FireFox to Chrome.  First it was this cool browser that I occasionally played around with, but now I love its speed, stock web development tools and finally the JS obfuscator.
