HTML5 Out Running Wild - Nike's Better World

by Chris 9. March 2011 20:05

With all the hubbub around HTML5 and CSS3, I'm always on the lookout for interesting sites that are make use of the newest features that HTML5 and CSS3 have to offer. I spent about an hour today playing around with various search terms, like "HTML5 showcase" and the like, and I stumbled across Nike's new site, Nike Better World.

One cool feature that site uses is the data- attributes for elements. These are being used to pass tracking information to Omniture, coordinates of where the line should follow, as well as data to control page scrolling.

WebMonkey says that the site is using the section tag incorrectly, because section tags require natural headers. The article is only half right on this claim, half of the site's section tags do have natural headers. The section elements that contain the green line are being not being used correctly and should be in a div.

I'm really excited to see that HTML5 is taking over so quickly. There was an article from WebMonkey published in 2008 saying that HTML 5 won't be ready until 2022.

Its awesome that the link from the post puts the new date 3 years from now.
